More about Reading

Reading is a medieval town, set in Berkshire in the South East of England. Perhaps most well-known amongst the younger generation as the destination for the music festival that descends on the town every August, it has much to offer visitors year round. Book a bed and breakfast in Reading and see for yourself.

The town is a popular destination with history enthusiasts, who book a Reading b and b in order to explore local historic sights. Reading Abbey Ruins and Forbury Gardens feature high on the list of local attractions. There is a city heritage walk that takes in both of these, as well as the Abbey Gateway, Reading Prison and the Oscar Wilde Gates. The Museum of Reading is great for young and old, offering a glimpse of life in the city down through the years and, further out of town, the ancient Roman town of Silchester is a fascinating visit.

Discover Reading from the river with a cruise on the Thames, or enjoy a picnic on the river banks. On a sunny day, a walk or a bike ride along the Kennet and Avon Canal is wonderful. There is much to offer the more active traveller in and around the town. From your B&B in Reading you can go paintballing at Fernwood or get out walking on the Thames Path and Ridgeway National Trails.

Find a cheap, family friendly bed and  breakfast in Reading and enjoy a break with the kids. Beale Park and Buckleberry Farm Park are both lovely family day out options close to the town, and The Lookout Discovery Centre offers a fantastic mix of interactive science and nature exhibits, as well as nature walks to keep the kids amused all day. Other top local days out include the Basildon Park and Wellington Country Park.

When it comes to shopping, Reading excels itself. From local independent stores to high street retailers, for shopaholics seeking a bed and breakfast Reading is ideal. The Oracle and Broad Street Mall are the town's main shopping centres and have everything a shopper could want. If you're after a party B&B Reading might also be for you. The town has a buzzing, vibrant nightlife, with lots of top restaurants, bars, nighclubs and live music venues where you can party until dawn if you have the energy!
