A Romantic Weekend Away in Whitby
Why Whitby?
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Yorkshire coast and countryside, it would be hard to find a more perfect destination for a romantic break in Britain. With it's mysterious ruined abbey, quaint Old Town and idyllic location and views, Whitby is one of England's most charming seaside resorts and romantic hideaways.
Where to Eat
In Whitby town centre, Green's of Whitby boasts an excellent menu with the very best Catch of the Day, which the owner collects each morning from the quayside near the restaurant. You can't get much fresher than that! The rest of the ingredients are also sourced from nearby, offering a true taste of Yorkshire to diners.

The Postgate Inn Menu
A few miles away in the delightful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, The Postgate Inn is one of those cosy, romantic hideaways in Yorkshire that's perfect for lunch or dinner on quiet couples holidays in Whitby. This beautiful little pub is set in Egton Bridge along the River Esk and dates back to 1860. It is popular with locals and tourists alike, thanks to the informal atmosphere, good ales and excellent food and service.
Whitby's Best Pubs

The view from Harry's bar
If you're looking for a charming place for a drink on your romantic weekend break in Whitby, Harry's Lounge Bar hits the spot. With stunning views over the town and Abbey, as well as a unique 'British tapas' style dining experience, it's the ideal place to while away an afternoon with your other half.
Things to See and Do
Whitby is a fantastic town for quiet holidays for couples and wandering hand in hand around the sights will start your romantic weekend away off on the right foot. Take a stroll over the ancient swing bridge in the Old Town then browse the quaint shops in the alleyways and cobbled streets. Treat your loved one to the romantic gift of the town's famous black jet jewellery, a gemstone found nearby.
Next, head up to the steps to Whitby Abbey for breathtaking views. The Abbey was voted 'Britain's most romantic ruin' by Countryfile Magazine and it's easy to see why.
To escape the crowds on your romantic weekend break in Whitby, head out on the Cleveland Way. This epic walking trail runs south from Whitby Abbey along the clifftops for 110 miles through the Yorkshire Moors. The dramatic cliffs and wild views over the moors are ideal for romantic holidays for couples - you might meet some local birds, but there won't be another person in sight for miles.
