Trade Secrets | Carpet Stain Busters!
The horror, the horror… You go up to a bedroom to clean it once a guest has departed, only to find a hideous stain on your beautiful carpet! But don’t despair, BnB Edition are here with our top trade secrets to make those carpet stains disappear in no time at all.
Drink Stain Removal
Difficulty? Medium
Time required? 20 minutes
#1 Blot it up with a clean white cloth to soak up as much liquid as possible.
#2 Mix 1/4 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent with 1/2 cup of cold water.
#3 Sponge the mixture onto the stain, trying to use as little liquid as possible. Repeat, patiently!
#4 If the stain is a dark coloured drink such as tea, coffee and red wine, next sponge the area lightly with vinegar. Allow to sit for 7 – 10 minutes.
#5 When it’s dry, vacuum the area thoroughly.
Ink Stain Removal
Difficulty? Hard
Time required? 10 minutes
#1 Spray liberally with hairspray.
#2 When it’s dry, wet the area again with warm water (try adding a drop of vinegar for light shades of carpet).
#3 Scrub with a medium-firm bristled brush.
#4 Blot with an old tea towel, but don’t rub.
#5 Repeat if necessary.
Make-Up Stain Removal
Difficulty? Medium
Time required? 15 minutes
For water-based make-up…
#1 Vacuum or brush up any loose powder.
#2 Dab with rubbing alcohol (not drinking alcohol!) on a cloth.
#3 Blot the stain dry.
#4 Moisten the area again with whitening toothpaste and leave for a few minutes.
#5 Scrub with an old toothbrush.
#6 Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water and blot dry once more.
And oily make-up…
#1 Scrape off any excess with a butter knife.
#2 Lay an old towel on top of the stain and apply a dry-cleaning liquid to tackle the grease. The stain should transfer onto the towel.
#3 Rinse thoroughly.
#4 Dab liquid detergent onto the stain with your fingers.
#5 Rinse again.
Blood Stain Removal
Difficulty? Medium
Time required? 15 minutes
#1 Soak the stain by rinsing with cold water and blotting with kitchen towels. Don’t use hot water, it will set the stain!
#2 Mix 1/4 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent with 1/2 cup of cold water.
#3 Work the mixture into the stain from the outside in, rinsing and blotting.
#4 Repeat as necessary, then leave the area well ventilated to dry.
Mud Removal
Difficulty? Easy
Time required? 5 minutes
#1 Allow the stain to dry completely.
#2 Brush the particles away with an old toothbrush or soft bristled brush.
#3 Vacuum.
