YoY Domestic Travel Search Hots Up

| September 13, 2010 | Comments (0)

UK B&B owners take note! Search giant Google has recently published figures showing a huge year-on-year increase in the popularity of UK destinations.

In June and July 2009, the number of searches for domestic travel destinations was up 31% (compared to just 3% the previous year) and the summer of 2010 has seen another big jump in queries. It seems that holiday-makers are being tempted by vacations close to home.

Edinburgh, Blackpool and Brighton were amongst the favourites, with their year-on-year increases ranking right up in the top 10 alongside Tenerife and Florida.

Google’s 2010 Whitepaper doesn’t speculate about the reasons behind the current trend, but here at BnB Edition we suspect the continuing credit squeeze may be a factor. It’s time for B&Bs to take over from high-priced hotels and respond to the demand for pocket-friendly travel!
