As the Jubilee bank holiday approaches, Britain is taking advantage of a long weekend with celebrations, events and weekend getaways. It’s not too late to decorate your bed and breakfast with a dash of patriotic British street party style and get your B&B customers in the mood for a diamond party! Here are 6 fun decorating and celebration ideas.

1. Jubilee cupcakes

Replace the usual welcoming tea and biscuits with themed cupcakes to greet your Jubilee weekend guests. We couldn’t resist this ready to use cupcake decorating kit, complete with Union Jack cupcake cases and Royal guard toppers.

2. Patriotic wall displays

For affordable but interesting decorations with a patriotic theme, try creating a collage or wall display form British postcards. You can easily pick up a cheap pack of cards with images of the Queen and Buckingham Palace to make a unique and relevant display. The National Portrait Gallery also has some great historic Kings and Queens souvenir postcards that will add interest to your B&B dining or living room.

3. Very British enterainment

Add to your collection of board and card games with this Best of British Trivia Game (£3.50). Your B&B guests can enjoy an evening in the bar testing their knowledge of all things British!

4. Go red, white and blue

Simple red, white and blue balloons and napkins will provide a splash of patriotic colour and an old fashioned street party vibe to your B&B décor. They’re also cheaper than buying the same products with Union Jack designs, so you’ll be saving on cash as well adding style.

5. Jubilee desert

Kids – and adults with a sweet tooth – will love this recipe for a red, white and blue Jubilee trifle. It’s simple and quick to make and this classic British desert will add to the party mood when served in the afternoon at your B&B.

 Serves 8 -10
180g sponge cake
135g pack strawberry jelly
4 tbsps apple juice
200g strawberries
200g blueberries
300ml whipping cream

Cut the sponge cake into slices and lay them flat on the bottom of a large bowl. Pour the apple juice over the top and leave to soak. Halve the strawberries and lay 100g of the strawberries on top of the sponge, followed by 100g of blueberries. Make the jelly and pour over the sponge and fruit, then leave to set in the fridge for two hours.

Whip the cream and spoon over the jelly when it’s set. Decorate the finished trifle with the remaining strawberries and blueberries for a red, white and blue finish.
