10 Customer Pet Hates – Are You Guilty?
Here’s a list of 10 things that really annoy guests when staying in B&Bs and guest houses!
They are not meant to offend, just to give you a heads up so that you can prepare yourself and your B&B for the next fussy guests when they arrive… and see if you’re guilty of some of these easy mistakes without realising it!
1. No complimentary toiletries
This may seem petty but one of the little luxuries about staying away are the complimentary toiletries and if these aren’t available it does cause disappointment. Some guests don’t always think to pack their own, too.
2. Limited toilet roll
What could be worse than running out of toilet roll? Always keep the toilet rolls well stocked, you may think a tower of toilet rolls looks unsightly but you would be surprised how quickly they get used.
3. Not enough milk for tea and coffee
Whether it’s fresh milk or single servings you put out on the trays it’s incredibly frustrating when you’ve boiled the kettle, put the teabag in the cup and then realised there is no milk.
4. No bath mat or fresh towels
More often than not guests will assume that towels will be provided so won’t think to pack their own. An absent bathmat, especially with a tiled floor, can be quite irritating and even hazardous should a guest slip on wet tiles.
5. No box of tissues in the room
It’s always nice to have tissues on hand. A small thought that makes a difference!
6. Reminders of the previous occupants
Hairs are a real no-no. Make sure the room is thoroughly cleaned before the next guests arrive.
7. Rooms for ‘four’ actually sleep three…
Generally this refers to a room with a double bed and sofa bed. Fine for a family with young children but not so good for two teenagers sharing.
8. Over advertising
When a B&B or Guest House claims to offer more than it actually does. If you don’t provide it then don’t advertise it. Don’t call a small room spacious, call it cosy and friendly, that is just as tempting and it’s honest.
9. Stale breakfast
Breakfast should be a highlight, not something to avoid. Stick with easy dishes you can make yourself rather than complicated shop bought goods – it’ll be much better, we promise.
10. Bad cereals
Kids love cereals at breakfast and cornflakes won’t quite cut it. Even if you don’t offer a choice every day, you can easily keep a reserve for guests who have their favourites.
